Hi all!
Today I had a mind blank, I didn’t know what topic that I could discuss about that would excite me. But today I rewatched the video Jedha Nasha from ‘An Action Hero’ film directed Anirudh Iyer. I have got to say that the visuals were beautiful and the song was so catch. But… somehow I felt like I have heard of this song before.
So today I did my little research on this song and have found in my Youtube search that this is a remake an independent song called ‘Nasha’ by Amar Jalal Group and Faridkot. So I thought why not do a visual comparison of An Action Hero film song remake with an original song video production and visuals.
From just looking at the visuals and thumbnails, you could get an idea of the main difference in both music video productions, and it is the budget. With An Action Hero film visuals, it has a lot of beautiful mise-en-scene production items as seen in the three stills below. I bet there would be investors and production companies putting in a lot of money into this song especially seeing the leading cast Ayushmann, Nora Fatehi, the extras and production set.
To be honest, I was so engrossed with the visuals and everything from the antique light setup and the decor to the fire. Also, going off topic but why do the actors have to look so good as well? 😩
Now lets go to the original Nasha music video, as per their visuals shown in the stills below, it looks to be a low budget production with the whole music crew being showcased in one room with a some nice focal shots done through their camera/s.
I have got to say whilst it may not be as visually aesthetic and pleasing as the new version, there is some sense of humanity that is created through this kind of production. It is a bit hard to explain, but with the camera person doing several close up and mid shots, it creates some sort of emotional connection that the audience has with the singers and musicians, as if its a communal thing, especially with some wide shots of the musicians seen in the room together.
If we go back to the new version, it is all about setting the whole area to be a blockbuster film especially with the lead actor Ayushmann being showcased. Maybe that is why they named the film An Action Hero 🤔. This varies widely from the original version that looks to be a passion project or funded one, I could be wrong here.
In terms of the colour grading, the original one is a bit more moody or less saturated, maybe it is meant to create some sort of authentic image with their audience. Whilst the new music video has a lot of colour and saturation to evoke the liveliness and glamour of the environment.
I may be overanalysing it but these are the vibes I get from both of these videos. I could almost guarantee this comparison will be prevalent with most current Bollywood music video remakes from older ones.
I think that with the originals, it is mostly from an idea that a group of people or creatives brought together. A few years later, this idea becomes a more glamourised visual that is created with a purpose to create a kind of global attraction and commercial success when marketing their film.
This is just my own thoughts, let me know what you all think.
